DO Ideas 2

Add the option to use traditional 3.5" hard drives in Volumes, at the fraction of the specified price

The new Block Storage option is SSD-based storage. SSDs are expensive, and $0.10/GB is kinda ridiculous.

I own an image host where I chose DO as my "surrogate" provider to start. As images came in, disk space was scarce, and had to move away to gain more disk space.

When I first heard about Block Storage, I was thrilled because I wanted to return to DO. But after hearing that the Block Storage is SSD-based and quite pricey, I had to scrap that idea.

It'd be nice if DO had the option to choose either the popular SSD storage @ $0.10/mth, or the traditional 3.5" drives with a cheaper price.

Not all storage-hungry applications need that SSD power, a 3.5" spinning drive would do just fine for some applications, and it hurts that I have to once again refuse to use DO because of their SSD-only attitude.

4TB Enterprise drives are relatively cheap and can hold a lot more capacity than SSDs can.

You're running our wallets dry.

Sometimes you just need a lot of RAW storage space and don't care about speed or having an expensive SSD.

Bytemark (a UK-based cloud host) have implemented this very well.

They have 2 options for attaching block storage to VMs - SSD or archive. Archive storage is £2/month for 100GB and uses SATA disks, SSD is £2/month for 10GB.

Thanks for the suggestion Marcus, we are listening to feedback and we will consider it.
