add support for jumbo frames

IaaS and cloud live in the land of network overlays within network overlays within network overlays. Pretty much every device since Gigabit Ethernet became mainstream supports jumbo frames - let's say MTU 9200. Path MTU discovery just works for all modern operating systems, so please can we move with the time and start supporting jumbo frames, both on private networking as well as on external interfaces?

@142174287-rafael-rosa Hey there, sorry I accidentally flagged your comment as inappropriate... I was looking for the “reply to comment” link, clicked it in error.

One usage case that would apply to me is when setting up network tunnels between two droplets with private networking enabled, jumbo frames could be very helpful to carry the full payload without fragmentation, since the encapsulation headers add varying sizes of overhead. This would apply in case someone was trunking vlans, vc’s, etc. as well. (Since private networking isn’t really “private” having vlans could be one way to isolate your droplets from others in the same physical node)

Thanks for the suggestion. Would you mind sharing with us your specific context that would make jumbo frames useful? For example, what applications you are using that require or would work better with them enabled. Having more information about your context will help us prioritize it and look for feedback from other users.
