Add server specific packages

When I created a droplet based on centos, it installed a lot of packages that are not required for server application. I would recommend if you come up with an option to create a droplet for server applications i.e. Open-office, gnome, Firefox, etc. are not required for server application. but Apache, Mysql or postgresql, php, etc. with default server applications is what we will need.

We've added a new beta feature under the droplets launch page which allows you to select an Application image.

Currently we are beta testing with just a RAILs image and if we get good feedback we will be adding additional application stacks in the future:
    LAMP
    Nginx + MP
    MongoDB
    etc.

Default server images are now minimal so only bare OS essentials are installed.

    Thanks,
    Moisey

We are finishing the work on images today to get the minimal server OS images added and then separate out our GUI Virtual Desktop images.

Instead of going with a turnkey solution for application images we are working on a new feature that will allow you to easier deploy code which we may be announcing a beta version as soon as late next week or the following.

As for turn-key installs we are also finishing an Import feature where users can either migrate their running servers from any other provider or provide URLs to ISO images that they want to install themselves.

We hope to have an early form of that ready possibly as early as next week.

Any news regarding the server images??
I think would be awesome if you can add TurnkeyLinux images (http://www.turnkeylinux.org/), I use several servers with this images (specially for the Backup and Migration feature).

We are deploying stacklit images this week and separating out Desktop enabled images.

After that we'll be building specific application stack images the following week starting with a LAMP stack, a RAILs stack on Apache and a RAILs stack on Nginx.

    Thanks,

The new base images are being imported this week and we'll clearly mark in the control panel which distros are server and virtual desktop based.

We are creating new images this week and adding them into the Droplet Create.

That should resolve the issue you had with unneeded packages being pre-installed.
