I guess you already has this on your planning, but just in case.. an API to control droplets (launch, destroy, backups, etc) would be very useful.
We've received a ton of great feedback from our users that have been testing the API and we're going to be announcing it officially as 1.0-release in late August.
Thanks to everyone who has been using it and helping us test it!
The API is still in Beta as we are working out a couple of bugs and also we are switching certain inputs to human names like sizes from size_ids to improve future compatibility.
You can however use it now by visiting:
Please note that it is in Beta.
When we have resolved the remaining issues we'll officially announce it on our blog and twitter and move it to api.digitalocean.com.
Can you please advise if the API is available to start using.
Yes you will be able to spin up droplets from one of the snapshots you have taken.
So you can create a base install, snapshot it, and create future droplets from that snapshot to easily setup new droplets for your users.
Will the API have the ability to deploy one of my own saved images like you can on Rackspace? So I can set up my own platform without having a complicated install script? I want to sell a blogging/component platform with a WYSIWYG site editor and IDE, depends on a bunch of things like node and mongo etc.. way easier if I can just make an image with it all set up and then call to the api 'deploy myimage1'.. then I just basically run that every time someone signs up.
You guessed right =)
This is already in development.
As soon as we feel that its production ready we will be deploying it and building out additional functionality as time goes on.
We'll definitely be announcing this on our Twitter and Blog as soon as the first version is out and ready for public use.
You won't be notified about changes to this idea.
