You can use the rebuild feature to return your VPS back to a base OS install without losing the IP.

However, if you are destroying a droplet or want a different OS everything you have configured is missing anyway so you can always point DNS to a new IP or anything else you have setup.

In the future we may be able to provide users with the ability to rebuild the virtual server from any of the base OS images, but this currently isn't available.

Indeed the IP address factor is very important. I say this because when my trial ended, my VPS was destroyed of course, but when I created another one with a paid account, I got a different IP. For now, it's cool because the IP is easy to remember, but If I have to destroy, i'm worried tat I won't have my same IP. That's why I ask to be able to change the OS without destroying the VPS. Of course, it is "destroyed" when I change the OS, but the IP is sure to remain the same everytime.

You can use the rebuild feature to restore your original OS on top of your current virtual server.

But in essence if you are changing your Linux OS you are destroying the virtual server and re-creating it.

If you are worried about preserving your IP the backend actually automatically attempts to return to you IPs that you have used in the past so if you destroy a virtual server and create a new one afterwards it is very likely that your original IP will be returned to you.

If there's another reason why you are requesting this let us know.

    Thanks
