I kept getting droplet creation errors regarding 'Image Convert', 'Image Xfer', and 'Create' when I attempt to create a droplet in Amsterdam using an image created in NYC.
If this a not a supported function, an appropriate warning is in order.
We've released image region transfer which now is under the Images tab so you have control over where your image resides.
We've also updated the CP so that it will not list images when you select a region unless they are taken in that region or global.
We've made a tremendous amount of progress on this item, unfortunately it was tied into a lot of other backend systems which required updates.
We're converting all of the existing images to our new kernel layout which is required before we can make the final change of exposing the image_xfer directly to customers so they can manage exactly in which datacenter they want their images to exist.
Then customers will be able to select the image for creation in that region when it's available there.
There is still about two weeks of work left on this as there are quite a few moving parts but its the highest issue on our list currently.
We're also investigating launching a new engineering tab which will provide a better view into what we are currently developing and why, as well as things that are changing etc. - all to facilitate better communication with customers on how things are evolving over time.
any news after 6 months?
We are working on this issue and rearchitecting a few things on the backend NAS systems which manage the snapshots in both regions.
Once we have completed that work we'll be updating this UserVoice request and closing it out.
It's taking a bit longer because we are going further than resolving the bug that is causing this issue but also working to retool some of the core backend NAS systems now that we have many more snapshots and backups stored than when we first launched our service.
Do we get a hint, when it is solved ?
That's great, thanks for the speed response.
This is a supported function but we are in the process of resolving a bug where the region transfer of the snapshot isn't working.
We're working on resolving this as soon as possible.
You won't be notified about changes to this idea.
