since you have good services and good prices, a referral program would be nice too, for making more money for both you guys and us ... :)
Ad Banners would be nice. Easier to promote
IMHO. The Do Referral Program Statistics need a major overhaul. Example: In over 3 months I now show over $1,500 as a pending amount and over 95 referrals. Yet. Today I have received less than $21.00 in payouts.
I also was told that out of the 97 referrals and over $1,500 pending referral amount shown as pending in my DO referral stats that only 4 are/have used DO services. That 93 have simply created a DO account using my referral link and nothing else.
Worse. I am also being told that some have by choice terminated their DO accounts before using any DO services. Yet my DO Referral statistics still show 97 referrals and over $1,500 in referrals pending.
It would make more sense to NOT add any amount to a pending referral amount until someone starts using Do services.
That said. It is very hard to believe that 97 people created DO accounts in over 3 months using my DO referral link yet only 4 have actually decided to use DO services in over 3 months. Which is what I am being told by support, today.
So. Today support told me that 97 referrals and over $1,500 shown as pending referrals is actually currently 4 referrals using DO services and soon to be $40.00 total vs. the $30.00 I have received so far in 3 months.
I don't know if I'll get reply on this comment, but still I want to express my opinion here:
As per my understanding DogitalOcean will pay $10 for total $10 billing of referred person. What if someone purchases $5 account (because most of the people want to give a try for 2-3 months before relying completely on webhosting service), then the referrel has to wait for 2 month billing cycle for $10 (or I am not sure if referral will get commission for $5 account even after two months).
So what I would like to suggest is: """ if referred person purchases $5 account give $5 to referrel """, and if referred person purchases $10 or > $10 account then pay the commision as per your current policy.
"404 Error - Oops–the page you are looking for was eaten by Sammy."
this is what I get when I go to https://www.digitalocean.com/user_referrals
Did the address change or was the program cancelled?
" $10 in account credits or commission (your choice)"
How to enable commission? I want to get % of him billings.
P.S. If is enable how much will be earn >?
"Bidding on branded keywords which include 'digitalocean' and/or 'digital ocean' for ads is prohibited."
I'm confused now, some guidance?
Thanks for the suggestion I'll forward it along to mitch =]
Could you add some banners to the settings page? I'd like to add some banner to my blogs, but I can't find any banner on your site :(
@charles You can use URL shrinking tools to mask the "refcode" as your URL parameter. I would recommend tinyurl.com or bit.ly. =]
I think the refcode or affiliate id is something that is common to most websites but open to hearing more feedback on it.
I would prefer that it doesn't say "refcode" as a URL parameter. Make me feel like I'm cheating them of something so awesome that I should be just sharing for "free"..if that makes any sense. :\
We are launching the referral program in beta and wanted to announce it here first.
If all goes well we will be officially announcing it next wednesday.
If you are having a problem with CJ commissions please email mitch@ directly and he'll take care of it.
Before you start your useless referral program, issue the affiliate payments for the CJ affiliates. You have already owed me $149 affiliate commissions
We are pushing the new CP to production today if all goes well and officially announcing it next week after we've worked out a few bugs which I'm sure will pop-up over the weekend.
Then we will be officially announcing the Referral program next week baring any unforeseen circumstances! =]
I have referred 2 people so far :( I wish this was already implemented.
@Sebastian: If you're moving people off of GoDaddy and onto a DigitalOcean VPS they are purchasing of their own you are providing a disservice to both your customer and yourself! Since they are coming from GoDaddy they are not in need of much more than just basic hosting services. You are missing out on a recurring revenue stream that is slapping you in the face!
I would offer those customers my very own hosting services, at $5/mo and place them all on a VPS together within their own virtual host.
Any updates ?
It will be credits based. =]
I feel the best (incentive) option for the Referral Program is "Credit Based". This definitely brings a sort of genuine attention both from the Current and Prospective Customers. And you always have options to refine the approach.
There are only a couple of statuses with UserVoice and we use them as follows:
No Status / Open = Waiting for more votes or more discussions from customers
UnderReview = Interesting, but not yet approved
Planned = Approved and we will implement at some point
Started = Code development has begun
Completed = Done! yay
In the case of the Referral program is pretty much finished but it will be launched with the new control panel which is in the works - its about 60% finished
Ok, "started" means its in development and hasnt launched. Weired naming ..
Waiting for this too.
Go go Digitalocean!
It hasn't been launched yet publicly but will soon =]
Can anyone tell me howto use the referral program?
Great news that referral program is started!
@Kerem , a lot of referal programs are bad. So yes, by association, this program might be looked down upon. However, it's better to have a referral to a very good service, rather than the one willing to pay the most. For example: Rackspace. They have a good referral program, but their services are 4x the price of DigitalOcean. It'll let the people that refer for money to refer to a better service. It's too bad that the current customer of GoDaddy I'm moving won't get to use the referral program (paying $10/mo for shared hosting and 10x the page load time of DO's cheapest server). But I'm not too broken up about it; it would just be nice to get a bonus for it. Hopefully the great service will override the connotations.
It will be credit based but I'm sure we'll figure out some minimum threshold at which we can also send out funds to customers that refer a lot of people =]
I like the idea. I already refer people to you any time they ask about hosting (I'm a webdev). It'd be nice to have a good referral program. I'd be able to get my clients on good hosting (*caugh* not godaddy *caugh*) and make a little extra, or at least save on my own servers (if it's credit based).
When we launch the referral program we will be announcing it via the blog and twitter and you'll be able to register =]
I would like to get in on a referral program
Thanks for your input and for referring people and we've had people also refer other customers to us who are also happy customers and wanted to get a few credits for it.
Also this is a referral program, not a reseller program.
Which means we aren't white labelling digitalocean it's just a way for customers to refer other users and get a bonus in the process.
Nice, I'd be interested too.
Or Reseller Program...:D
We are currently running a referral program through Commission Junction but we will be writing and implementing our own in the next couple of weeks.
You won't be notified about changes to this idea.
