DO Ideas 2

Work on Log-In Sharing & Navigation (Client Side & On-Site)

Currently, if I log-in to the forum to browse and/or reply to a post I have to log-in again to access the client panel and my droplets when clicking the "Login" button in the header. It seems that since the same log-in details are used across the board, this shouldn't happen and I should be able to seamlessly browse back and forth without having to log-in multiple times.

It would also be nice to see consistent navigation in the client area (i.e. replicate the site navigation to the client area) so it creates a more consistent user experience. There are times I'd like to browse through but I have to physically leave the client area to go back to the site. If I could just click through with a shared log-in, it'd be much easier.

We are working on a large redesign and update which is being rolled out first on the Control Panel, then community, then the main website so this will be getting rolled out in stages.

I am having (I think) the same issue:
    - I read community articles and when I login to comment I am returned to the last article I was reading, which is OK.

    - I cannot see any link to go also to my account (only the Login Button even if I am already logged in)
    - If I close the tab I was reading and then later I try to login to my account from the DO homepage - instead of the droplets page.... I am brought back to the last article I read earlier.
    - I have to go back on the homepage and re-login to be brought to my account.

Because I am already logged in I now use a bookmark to go to my droplets page, not having a direct link on the site (or I manually add /droplets after the DO address).

    My suggestion
    - Either add a secondary button near to LogIn, pointing to the /droplets URL with the name, say "My Account". If you are not logged in you will be presented with the login page anyway. Otherwise you go directly to the account.
    - Or make the Login button change to a MyAccount button once logged in, no matter where you are on the site.

    Thanks for a great service!

    Oh ok!

Got it, now I know what you are referring to, yeah that's an issue that we realized this week.

It's not really clear whether you are logged in or not and the login button just goes to the login screen and doesn't check if you are.

So we are going to update for that =]

Thanks for the quick response - this happens across all browsers on my end (FF, Opera, Safari, IE, and Chrome) - not sure it's a cookie issue since it also happens on my tablet and a second, a Mac (primary is Windows 7). All are set to accept cookies regardless and no other sites have issues keep cookies set (Google, Our Servers, etc).

I don't have any problems staying logged in and I'm still logged in if I browse back and forth, though I have always have to log-in again when clicking the "Login" button in the header. This has happened since I first signed up for a DO account.

With that said, the second part of the above still remains :-). Consistent navigation would be welcome to make browsing the site in its entirety much easier.

    Hi Jonathan,

That's actually not the case, after you login anywhere you are logged in. Sounds like you have an issue with cookies or something else because going to the community, the control panel, etc it's the same login.

You may want to open a ticket so we can help you troubleshoot this.
