DO Ideas 2

Make it possible to transfer a droplet from one location to another (i.e. from NY to AMS or vice versa), retaining the same IP.

I currently have one VPS in NY and another one in AMS. Thinking that I want to do some application sharding (web on one, database on the other one), but since I decided to make them geographically separated, I have no easy way to transfer the AMS one to NY, ensuring that I retain the same IP address.

In order to transfer your droplet you have to:

    1. Power off your droplet
    2. Make backup image from it
    3. Go to 'Images' section and transfer your image to another location
    4. Create new droplet from transferred image in new location

I would super appreciate for this.

You can't preserve an IP between datacenters because they are routed geographically so its not possible.

To migrate your VM just take a snapshot of it and then create a new VM from the snapshot in the new region.

    Thanks
