Digital Ocean should have a ddos protected firewall!
DDOS attacks are all very different and no provider is really "immune" from them even some of the webs largest web properties have been affected including Amazon, Github, and others.
Its an ever evolving game of cat and mouse for websites that are constantly targeted there are specific services that act as front-end proxies that mitigate attacks and forward legitimate requests over to the service provider running the actual applications. Because of the extensive work that goes into this it's a fully fledged business in and of itself and while we have many items in place on our end to deal with DDOS attacks our central focus is on infrastructure as a service.
