When creating a new droplet you have the option to enable VertIO. It would be really nice to know what exactly that is. Especially since it was enabled by default for me.
A tooltip has been added to the droplet create page describing virtio.
If you are running a different kernel or a specific version of linux it may cause an issue, it's quite rare but we add it as an option just in case.
Why would you ever want to turn it off?
VirtIO sits between the virtual server and the hypervisor to optimize the workflow of how the virtual server consumes physical components of the hypervisor such as CPU, networking, harddrive, etc and optimizes it.
This allows your virtual server to have better network throughput, disk read/writes, and more efficient usage of the CPU.
