Machine images

Having machine images like Amazon Machine Image (AMI) or Turnkey Linux would be a great feature on Digital Ocean instead of manually reinventing the wheel every time a user wants to build a new server. I suggest Digital Ocean should build something like a base image where you can add on software on top of it. To be secure, this must be certified by Digital Ocean itself such that the machine image would be lean and optimized. I understand that developers ought to know the command line but this is, first and foremost, a matter of convenience on the part of developers and a great feature on the part of Digital Ocean.

We are working on something like this and it's scattered around in UserVoice in other requests.

Part of that is making customer images public and shareable.

Our part will be to deploy applications and we've done some testing with images that we create and we're also looking into automating that provisioning process with either Chef or Puppet for application stacks.

So closing this request in favor of the more specific existing requests.
