Could you please detail how to use the copy/paste in the DO console?
I have tried ctrl+V, right click, double click, ... but none of these work for pasting in console using IE browser.

Manually type in the SSH-RSA at droplet console is how I solved the Permission denied (publickey) error when access droplet IP from any remote terminal. The window to paste public key in the setting menu does not work on individual droplet, and droplet do not have a GUI access to change the publickey. The only way I got this working is type it manually in the droplet console.

Can I do more than 3 votes? It's been years digital ocean, allow us to copy & paste in the console already.

For those looking for a workaround to copy and paste: (Wow, never thought I'd need to say that. Get your crap together Digital Ocean)

Download PuTTY, enter server IP, make sure you copy the password and then right click when it asks for the password.

please fix this. we work all day using copy paste and to not have this ability especially in a place like the console where you get 0 feedback from trying to paste a password. it makes people angry. hopefully it's not too hard for you all to implement

How is this not fixed? My ssh keys are massive, I've spent all day trying to figure this out. Please fix this DO or I'm gone...

I just started with digital ocean and when I try to login I realized that there is no copy/paste option in the conosole and I need to type that looooong password. Its very bad that basic option is not there.

    Upvoted.

With password access disabled trying to setup ssh keys and access from the console would be easy with a responsive console with copy/paste. With the current console though it's HELLACIOUS and pushes me to various less secure workarounds.

I agree this is essential. My current need illustrates the problem.

Support has not responded in almost a day. We just need them to mount the Droplet for recovery.

    The problem:
Resized droplet and public and private network do not start. Same for Droplets made from (useless) backups from the backup service. The problem may be a corrupted yum update, but without a network...

We have our own backups, except for the SSL private key. I can see it in the console, but I can't copy the text.

Very frustrating, added to the 6 or 7 hours invested in trying to work around the lack of support by starting copies, changing the root password -- another mind numbing task without paste.

    essential feature.
This not happening is overwhelmingly disappointing.
Let me give you an example of how crippling the absence of this feature is (aside the typical "typing pw" issue):

    > creating new droplet
    > rancher os
    > wtf, vnc console has no support for my keyboard layout
    > absolutly no way to type slash character
    > !!actualy really not able to type a f**king slash!!
    > also not able to copy/paste a slash or command
    > !!actualy really not able to copy/paste a f**king thing!!
    > no slash => no pulling docker containers => droplet completly useless
    > sad customer

(well I could change my keyboard layouton my local machine, but honestly...)

I've disabled SSH for security reasons and prefer to use the DIgitalOcean Console but not having Copy/Paste functionality in the console makes this a huge headache to deal with every time I need to enter long passwords, etc. Please provide copy/paste functionality in the console!

The console is completely unusable. My password is extremely long for security and always must be copy and pasted. And after that I need to be able to paste in exact complicated Linux commands.

This took my 2 days. I thought I can solve ssh'ing with root password and nothing worked.

I literally wrote one by one, all my rsa key to authorized keys.

I made some JS that will do it, it opens a prompt for what you want to have pasted into the console:

    !function(){function t(){window.rfb.sendKey(e.shift().charCodeAt()),e.length>0&&setTimeout(t,10)}var e=prompt("Enter text to be sent to console, (This wont send the enter keystroke)").split("");t()}();

    See: https://gist.github.com/croepha/7b53f211ae4be3c526c3

It works on Chrome and Safari, probably most others too

This would really be great. I don't usually use the VNC console (I normally use Terminal), but this would be an excellent feature, for say, if I am away from my regular computer and I need to log in and make a few changes. Copy/Paste can always save a few keystrokes!

Console Access is really only for emergency access. It's best if you login using SSH. You can use PuTTY to do this if you are using Windows and allows copy and pasting.

  • Cristos Lianides-Chin commented

I agree with this request -- it's impossible to paste from the clipboard into the VNC terminal on your droplet. Yes, I can do it with Putty on Windows, but some things don't run well in putty (e.g, tasksel in Ubuntu).

It'd be very useful, as sometimes I don't want to load my console locally if I already have the browser-based one open just to copy / paste the contents of a server file.

Are you talking about ssh? If you are
Linux just right click and select paste
OSx just copy paste as you normally would.

This is key if you got 40 chars random root passwords stored in password safe like I do.
