DO Ideas 2

What counts as inbound/outbound bandwidth

I'm kicking around the idea of looking for a VPS to host an Owncloud instance with. I need more disk space than is offered on the $5/month plan, however. So, I figured why not leverage GlusterFS on a few $5/month instances and, if I need more disk space, add a node. Question: would server-to-server data count against my monthly bandwidth allotment if all of my instances are in the same DO datacenter?

Thanks in advance!

All outbound traffic that is routed through the public interface counts against your bandwidth usage.

Currently, two of our datacenters (AMS2 and NYC2) support private networking (an internal network between droplets in the same datacenter) which is completely free of charge. See https://www.digitalocean.com/community/articles/how-to-set-up-and-use-digitalocean-private-networking

you can use private networking for this and it won;t count towards the bandwidth.
