DO Ideas 2

Improve DNS response times

Make your DNS response times faster across all nameservers.
One thing all sites have to wait for is the DNS resolution time.
If you have a site that connect and downloads the homepage in 30ms waiting for 80ms or more of DNS resolution is not the better thing.

One DO nameserver (NS1) is fast (~10ms) the others more slow (~80ms) NS2 and NS3.

There is a comparation of the fastest NS http://www.solvedns.com/dns-comparison/2014/03.

    Admin Response

The reason you see different response times for different NS servers is we distribute them across our different datacenter region. We've also been rebuilding our underlying DNS architecture to improve how quickly our DNS servers pick up new entries that are added and its near instantaneous now. In the future as we expand some of our networking capabilities we will look into geodistributing our DNS service so that users will automatically be directed to the geographically closest NS server. Thanks!
