Support OpenBSD

I was happy to see that today a FreeBSD droplet was added, but I'm more interested in OpenBSD than FreeBSD.

I would like to use digitalocean to honour the very good articles you can find online but I can't compromise on security and at present OpenBSD is the best. Besides I need to test things like pledge2 and pf that I cannot do elsewhere.

It's not gonna happen. You're doing the right thing sticking to Vultr.

OpenBSD now officially supports binary patches. That should make support even easier now! I would like to see DO support OpenBSD but until they do, I will probably just stick primarily with Vultr as my business needs require the use of that OS and I can't wait on DO for much longer to step up.

Just switch to Vultr, they already do it. Spoke to the DO owner a while back and it is very unlikely it'll happen anytime soon.

We switched a large number of serves to Vultr (which now supports OpenBSD officially) because we could install OpenBSD. We would switch back if Digital Ocean officially supported OpenBSD.

G....guy? OpenBSD soon? It's 2017. We're on v6 now. If not full support of it, at least write an article on how to dd the file system and get Internet connected for a manual Console install?

    Please.

I'd love to see OpenBSD on here.

OpenBSD is great for those concerned with security. As we all know, the heart of all things security in Linux and FreeBSD practically came from OpenBSD, so supporting that would encourage the more paranoid to use DigitalOcean.

    Yes please OpenBSD ! :)

  • Aaron Hamilton commented
    September 11, 2018 17:06

My use case is for running OpenSMTPD. There is a portable version of it, but OpenBSD has unique system-level security and robustness guarantees which simply don't exist in FreeBSD or GNU/Linux. I currently run many less-critical services on DO, but mail has to be handled on a provider which allows me to use OpenBSD.

As such, I would at least like to know why OpenBSD isn't currently supported; and how to help this along. If we don't know why it's not, we have no way of helping. Is there insufficient Xen guest support in OpenBSD? Does a driver not perform adequately? Is it difficult to thinly provision the filesystem?

    A few reasons for openBSD:

    1) Security. OpenBSD is usually one of the first, if not *the* first, to implement mitigation techniques and policies against binary-level exploitation. Along with stringent development guidelines, auditing, and unforgivingness to user mistake makes openBSD paramount in this field.

    2) Documentation is well written.

    3) Stable and careful about adding on new features.

    Please consider this option.
