I was happy to see that today a FreeBSD droplet was added, but I'm more interested in OpenBSD than FreeBSD.
I would like to use digitalocean to honour the very good articles you can find online but I can't compromise on security and at present OpenBSD is the best. Besides I need to test things like pledge2 and pf that I cannot do elsewhere.
Would love to have DO support OpenBSD option in the control panel.
I'd like to run OpenBSD on DigitalOcean.
Any private server is better with OpenBSD, I vote for this
would love to see OpenBSD support!
> I can't wait on DO for much longer to step up.
It's not gonna happen. You're doing the right thing sticking to Vultr.
OpenBSD now officially supports binary patches. That should make support even easier now! I would like to see DO support OpenBSD but until they do, I will probably just stick primarily with Vultr as my business needs require the use of that OS and I can't wait on DO for much longer to step up.
I am running up FreeBSD servers with Vultr in April, be great to have another option.
Just switch to Vultr, they already do it. Spoke to the DO owner a while back and it is very unlikely it'll happen anytime soon.
Would definitely like to see OpenBSD officially supported
I'm using Linode for OpenBSD, but always nice to have more support at more places! Cheers.
We switched a large number of serves to Vultr (which now supports OpenBSD officially) because we could install OpenBSD. We would switch back if Digital Ocean officially supported OpenBSD.
G....guy? OpenBSD soon? It's 2017. We're on v6 now. If not full support of it, at least write an article on how to dd the file system and get Internet connected for a manual Console install?
Would love to have OpenBSD droplet.
OpenBSD is secure by default and very small, excellent choice for small VPS.
Please, add OpenBSD. If you add OpenBSD you gain another customer.
I'd love to see OpenBSD on here.
OpenBSD is great for those concerned with security. As we all know, the heart of all things security in Linux and FreeBSD practically came from OpenBSD, so supporting that would encourage the more paranoid to use DigitalOcean.
FreeBSD is awesome.
OpenBSD is awesome.
Some of the community require both, some of the community only requires one.
Please add OpenBSD.
Please, add OpenBSD.
Yes OpenBSD, specifically to get native OpenSMTPD
Yes please OpenBSD ! :)
My use case is for running OpenSMTPD. There is a portable version of it, but OpenBSD has unique system-level security and robustness guarantees which simply don't exist in FreeBSD or GNU/Linux. I currently run many less-critical services on DO, but mail has to be handled on a provider which allows me to use OpenBSD.
As such, I would at least like to know why OpenBSD isn't currently supported; and how to help this along. If we don't know why it's not, we have no way of helping. Is there insufficient Xen guest support in OpenBSD? Does a driver not perform adequately? Is it difficult to thinly provision the filesystem?
Very need OpenBSD. Add please.
We'd be using DO right now if it supported OpenBSD.
Also tossing in my vote for OpenBSD support. I am a current DO customer runing FreeBSD but I would also like to have OpenBSD droplets supported. OpenBSD now has some Xen support, so I believe this should remove barriers to support.
Yes, please allow OPENBSD
If you add OpenBSD you gain another customer.
Please Support OpenBSD. Currently I am considering switching VPS providers to one that supports OpenBSD. I also don't want to use a 'hack' for my OS installation.
A few reasons for openBSD:
1) Security. OpenBSD is usually one of the first, if not *the* first, to implement mitigation techniques and policies against binary-level exploitation. Along with stringent development guidelines, auditing, and unforgivingness to user mistake makes openBSD paramount in this field.
2) Documentation is well written.
3) Stable and careful about adding on new features.
Please consider this option.
This would be amazing, please add it!
This needs to happen!
Please add OpenBSD support!!!
Please bring OpenBSD support!
This would be a dream, please do it!
OpenBSD is good for load balancing, traffic shaping, firewall, encryption, VPN protecting Linux(or FreeBSD) workhorses.
AFAIK pf also exist in FreeBSD but not updated since imported from OpenBSD.
yes openbsd please.
until its officially supported, this how-to works well:
Yes, let's get openbsd!
I would also be interested in OpenBSD availability.
I really look forward to having a Open BSD
Add OpenBSD support, and I'll be a customer.
OpenBSD should be supported.
Would love to see OpenBSD droplets as well.
It's a lean and mean OS, perfect for servers due to its emphasis on code correctness and lack of bloat. Also happens to be as secure as a brick by default.
Please give us a an OS without Satan logos :)
I'm interested in the secure services that openbsd provides, so while it's awesome that you support FreeBSD, it doesn't help me at all. If you supported OpenBSD, I'd switch in a heartbeat.
Would love to see more options for BSD droplets.
After heart bleed bug, now everyone knows how much open source security stack is based on weak foundation.
Any security concerned people will be appreciated with LibreSSL integrated OpenSSL, if other Linux distributions will not take some action about that.
Why not put a puffy in your ocean?
Would love to see OpenBSD as well.
I can confirm I would use this feature, and would spend more cash on DO if I had easy access to OpenBSD droplets.
dd if=install5.6.fs of=/dev/vda bs=1M
please add support for openbsd
that is what i am waiting for to join DO
OpenBSD droplets would allow me to do quick and easy testing before deploying on my production servers, and given that the OpenBSD update cycle means two OS upgrades a year, this would be very useful indeed.
If you add OpenBSD, you have my credit card! TODAY!
Good to have OpenBSD
If you want security at all.
Looking forward OpenBSD too.
Yeah, I'd love to see OpenBSD support.
Oh, and thank you guys for sponsoring BSDnow.tv
FreeBSD and OpenBSD are finally getting the attention they have deserved for decades! Please support them!
Definitely would prefer an OpenBSD solution, or at very least allow me to boot an ISO image and I'll do it myself. Don't want 'value add services,' just cpu+disk... no fancy stuff like remote passwd resets and similar.
FreeBSD is great, yet I would really like to use a DigitalOcean OpenBSD droplet.
I'd also love to use OpenBSD on my Digital Ocean VPSs. It'd be great for your system's security, too.
Three votes and five cheers for the world's only operating system!
Yes, please add OpenBSD support!
Please don't add support for OpenBSD. I prefer to use a more robust provider, arp networks.
Please add support for OpenBSD.
Openbsd for me too. It feels the safest environment for me as a home user. Totally given up Linux now.
OpenBSD would make DigitalOcean cloud itself safer for everybody.
"I like big gunz and I cannot lie"
I would love to see OpenBSD support at Digital Ocean.
Definitely endorse OpenBSD
OpenBSD all the things!
OpenBSD would be useful
Definitely OpenBSD - surprised not more requests ...
It would bbe great
Yes, please. Much more interested in OpenBSD than FreeBSD.
I agree with this ... appreciate FreeBSD droplet but looking for OpenBSD
